We have (nearly) lined up funding for a post-doc and/or MS statistician for work related to the human microbiome projects  (http://nihroadmap.nih.gov/hmp/) here at Washington University.

We are planning this out in detail now but I wanted to give a heads up to people on this list and give a (non-official) job description.

The work will be under my supervision and collaborative with a director of the genome sequencing center and investigators in pediatrics.  The focus will be on developing novel statistical methods for analyzing massive amounts of bacterial and viral sequence data and applying these methods to existing patient data (translational medicine).  This is a high-powered group with a focus on rapid results.  The post-doc will have two years to become active with next-generation sequencing (454 pyrosequencing) and working within the dept. of medicine on important clinical problems.  The candidate will be involved with grant writing and the goal will be to get this person independent.

Minimum requirements for both positions are graduate degrees in statistics (biostatistics preferred) and high level of statistical programming skills (SAS and R).
