Celebrate National Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with us at the Wang Center! 


1. SAKURA MATSURI: Long Island's 12th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival
Saturday, May 5, Noon, Wang Center

Join us for a day filled with exciting activities for children and adults, including exhibitions of bonsai and sumi-e (ink paintings); an interactive demonstration of ikebana (flower arrangements); a traditional tea ceremony; a kimono fashion show; raku-yaki (pottery); manga; origami; martial arts; and much more!

This year's festival also marks Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day) and the Centennial Celebration of the Gift of Cherry Blossoms from Japan to the United States.

Featured performers:

Kaoru Watanabe: Taiko ensemble
Masayo Ishigure and Miyabi: Koto and Shamisen
10tecomai Dance Company: modern choreography with rock music
Ichifuji Kai: traditional & classical Japanese Dance.
Junko Fisher: Okinawan folk song and dance

Kodomo No Hi (Children's Day) Performance: 1:30 PM, Charles B. Wang Center Theatre
Traditional/Contemporary Performance: 4:00 PM, Charles B. Wang Center Theatre

Tickets for each performance are $10 (general)/ $8 (students and seniors) / $6 (children 5-12)
Tickets for both performances: $15 (general) / $12 (students and seniors) / $9 (children 5-12)
Festival admission is free.

2. FOURTH ANNUAL ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION 
Saturday, May 12, 1:00 pm

Join us for the Fourth Annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebration: One World, Many Cultures. This celebration promotes cultural awareness of the Asian Pacific American communities and celebrate the diversity of Long Island’s population, will be held at Stony Brook's Charles B. Wang Center.
 
Featured are multi&#8208;cultural booth display, arts and crafts, costumes, dance, featured presentations, photo exhibit, tea ceremony, vendor and corporate displays and workshops. There will be multi&#8208;cultural dance and musical performance, open theater, Presentation of Awards for Distinguished Asian Americans individuals and Awarding Ceremonies for the Social Harmony contest.
 
FREE admission from 1&#8208;6 PM at the main lobby and 
open theater starts at 2 PM. 
At 1:30 pm, we will be featuring the AAAB Youth Orchestra who will explore the world of music from Renaissance to the 21st Century and 
our main featured multi&#8208;cultural performance is at 4:30 pm ($10) and is on a first come, first served. 
The Wang Center Theater seating is limited at the 4:30 PM show.

APAHM Celebration in the Wang Center lobbies (FREE ADMISSION): 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Music and Dance Performance, featuring the AAAB Youth Orchestra (FREE ADMISSION): 1:30 PM, Wang Center Theatre
Open Theatre (Free Admission): 2:00 PM, Wang Center Main Lobby
Feature Performance by Asian Artists ($10): 4:30 PM, Wang Center Theatre

Multi&#8208;cultural performance tickets are sold on&#8208;line and at the entrance. Tickets for the feature performance are first come, first served. Please reserve online at www.scaaab.org.

Wang Center, Stony Brook University; and is co&#8208;sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Suffolk Community College Asian Cultural Club & Mathematics Club, and the Center of Chinese Learning at Stony Brook.
