MEETING ANNOUCEMENT -- CSNA2006
This is the annual meeting of the Classification Society of North America. (CSNA).
The dates: May 10-13, 2006.
The place: DIMACS,
Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ.
The theme: Network Data Analysis and Data Mining: applications in
Biology, Sociology, Computer Science, Intrusion Detection, and Other Areas.
Further information about the meeting may be obtained by email from
[log in to unmask] Proposals for special sessions, contributed
papers and invited speakers are welcome and may be submitted via this
email address. The deadline for submissions is February 25, 2006. All
submissions will be acknowledged no later than April 10, 2006
This meeting will be held partly as a joint meeting with the DIMACS
workshop "Clustering Problems in Biological Networks" that is being
held May 9-11, 2006 at DIMACS.
http://dimacs.rutgers.edu/Workshops/Clustering/ Both DIMACS and the
CSNA cordially invite you to participate in these meetings.
Registration for the CSNA meeting alone is welcome, and there will
also be a special combined rate available for people wishing to attend
both events. The meeting is cosponsored by the Institute of
Mathematical Statistics.
The general theme involves data analysis of various types of networks,
and as is typical in DIMACS sponsored events, there will be a strong
emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches that will include ideas from
discrete mathematics, statistics, and computer science. Background
material will be provided by means of tutorials and expository talks;
presentations involving solutions of real world problems will be
encouraged. The formation of research alliances for future work is
welcome. CSNA meetings are traditionally informal and
interdisciplinary. The annual meeting of CSNA will be held as part of
this meeting, as will the meeting of its Board of Directors.
The organizers of the meeting are especially interested in the
inclusion of a wide variety of contributed papers involving
applications and theory for classification, clustering and related
methodologies as they might apply to topics related to the theme of
the meeting. There will be ample opportunity for informal discussions
and the exploration of new research ideas.
Current invited speakers include
Sanjoy Dasgupta, University of California at San Diego
Active learning of linear separators
Casimir Kulikowski, Rutgers University
Clustering and Machine Learning over Genomic Databases
with Underlying (Network or Tree) Structure
Christina Leslie, Columbia University
Multi-class protein classification using string kernels and
adaptive codes
David Madigan, Rutgers University
Incorporation of extra-data sources in predictive modeling
Fionn Murtagh, University of London
Identifying and exploiting ultrametricity
Panos Pardolos, University of Florida
Data Mining and Network Models of Massive Datasets
Sal Stolfo, Columbia University
Unsupervised anomaly detection in computer security
Two tutorials are planned. One would be on cluster analysis given by
Fionn Murtagh, and the other one is still to be determined.
Organizers of special sessions include
Stephen Hirtle, University of Pittsburgh Rebecka Jornnsten, Rutgers
University
Paul Kantor, Rutgers University Jon Kettenring, Telcordia
Technologies
Regina Liu, Rutgers University Douglas Steinley, University
of Missouri
Stanley Wasserman, Indiana University
The meeting itself is organized by Mel Janowitz of DIMACS. The program
committee includes David Banks, Stanley Sclove and William
Shannon. Our apologies for duplicate notifications.
