NEW BOOK: "Computational Intelligence in Intelligent Data Analysis"
on the occasion of Rudolf Kruse's 60th birthday

Edited by Christian Moewes and Andreas Nürnberger
(both from the University of Magdeburg, Germany)

We are pleased to announce the publication of the book "Computational
Intelligence in Intelligent Data Analysis" (Springer SCI vol. 445).
This edited volume contains a collection of 20 original, peer-reviewed
papers dealing with computational intelligence in data analysis.

Computational intelligence attempts to mimic nature-inspired problem-
solving strategies and methods. These strategies can be used to study,
model and analyze complex systems such that it becomes feasible to
handle them. Key areas of computational intelligence are artificial
neural networks, evolutionary computation and fuzzy systems. Such
methods have been widely used successfully in different applications.
One of todays challenges is, however, the use of computational
intelligence methods to intelligently handle data-intensive systems.
Here, the task is to identify regularities or patterns in order to take
advantage of rapidly-growing, massive databases. When such methods are
furthermore enhanced by human ideas and concepts that ensure
interpretability, soundness and applicability, then we talk about
intelligent data analysis.

As only a few researchers in that field, Rudolf Kruse has contributed
in many important ways to the understanding, modeling and application
of computational intelligence methods. On occasion of his 60th
birthday, a collection of original papers of leading researchers in the
field of computational intelligence has been collected in this volume.
